Throw-Me-Back Photo Contest

Contest Details

We’ve come up with an exciting idea for our next community calendar photo contest. We are seeking throwback photo recreations to use in our 2017 calendar design. We are calling it our Throw-Me-Back Photo Contest.

What exactly are throwback photo recreations? If you’re on social media, you’ve probably seen a couple examples of these over the past few years. If not, here are some examples from a Google image search for “funny recreated family photos”. Go ahead, click on the link and view the examples. The rest of these contest details can wait…

Okay, glad to have you back. So how can you enter this contest? Follow the steps below or you can watch the video below to learn everything you need know. Did we mention there are prizes again this year (prize details are further down below)?

How To Enter

  • Step 1: Find your collection of old family photos.
  • Step 2: Take a look through these photos and try to find the perfect photo(s) to recreate (please refrain from destroying any embarrassing photos. Your kid’s or grandchildren will enjoy seeing them someday). You can enter up to 3 photo submissions per person.
  • Step 3: Choosing the right photo is very important. Our advice is to find the most unique photo(s) you can. Photos with children that are now grown up are always fun to recreate. Don’t be afraid to get your parents, grandparents, pets or friends involved, if you have photos that include them. The goal is to have fun recreating these photos.
  • Step 4: Once you have your photo chosen, you need to decide how you are going to recreate it. You’ll score bonus points if you can find the same or similar clothes and props that were used in the original photo. Setup and frame the new photo as close to the original as possible.
  • Step 5: You’ll want to use a modern camera to recreate this photo. This can be a DSLR camera, point and shoot camera, high-quality film camera, or a new smartphone camera. The key is to make sure you can get a high resolution file or print from whatever camera you end up using.
  • Step 6: In order to submit your entry, we will need both the original photo and the new photo recreation file or print.
    • You can submit up to three photo submissions per person in this contest.
    • First complete our online photo entry form.
    • If you are sending print copies, they can be mailed directly to us or dropped off at your nearest Heartland Bank location. Don’t worry though, the photo entry form requires a return address so you will receive these photos back in the method you submitted them.

Deadline: The photo submission period runs from September 1st - October 16th. Be sure to get your photo recreations completed and submitted before then!

How To Vote

Our public Facebook voting was so successful during last year's photo contest, that we are bringing the same format back again this year.

  • On October 17th, we will narrow down all of the photo submissions to our hand-picked semi-finalists. Photos will be judged on creativity, nostalgia, photo quality, and overall wow-factor. All semi-finalist photos will be uploaded to a photo album on our Heartland Bank Facebook page that day for the general public to vote on.
  • From October 17th through October 31st, simply ‘Like’ the photos you want to vote for on our bank Facebook page. Each like counts as one vote. If your photo submission makes it to the semi-finalist round, be sure to share our Facebook post with your friends and family to encourage them to vote for your photo(s). There’s no restrictions on who can vote for each photo.
  • Once the voting period ends on October 31st, we will count up the Facebook ‘Likes’ for each photo and announce our winners on November 1st.

What's a photo contest, without some good prizes to win? Our top three contest winners will be determined by the total number of Facebook 'Likes' on each photo.

  • Grand Prize: Our first place photographer will receive $300 of cold, hard cash.
  • 2nd Place: A photo contest needs a photo themed prize. Our second place photographer will receive a Polaroid SnapTM instant print digital camera package (includes camera, SD card, travel case, and 20 sheet film pack).
  • 3rd Place: We feel third place is pretty much as good as second place, so our third place photographer will also receive a Polaroid SnapTM instant print digital camera package (includes camera, SD card, travel case, and 20 sheet film pack).
  • Calendar Photos: For all the semi-finalists whose photos are used in the calendar, you will receive a limited-edition Heartland Bank Throw-Me-Back graphic t-shirt. We'll contact you for your exact size before placing the order. There will be a women's and men's version of the shirt for you to choose from!
