It’s normal to feel anxious in the days and weeks leading up to closing. After all, you’re doing something you’ve never done before. You’re becoming a homeowner, and these last final steps seem so full of unknowns.

To ease your mind about closing, remember:

  • Closing is simply a meeting in which you sign all of the documents required to formally take possession of your new home.
  • It’s not a “yes or no” meeting. If closing has been scheduled, that means the decision is “yes” and you should come and take possession of your new home.
  • There’s nothing new about the documents you’re signing. You’re simply confirming with your signature decisions you’ve already made about your mortgage loan and purchased property.
  • Your mortgage loan officer will have everything prepared and ready to go in advance of the meeting. He or she will review each document with you and explain each item before you sign it.
  • You’ll know everyone there – typically your mortgage loan officer, buyer agent and escrow company attend.
  • Closing can usually be completed in an hour (or just a bit longer).
  • You’ll make your down payment and pay any closing costs you owe.
  • At the end of the meeting, you’ll get the keys to your new place and you’ll be free to move in.

Even experienced home buyers can get a little anxious leading up to closing. But, trust us, any stress you’re feeling will disappear once you’ve opened the door to your new place.
