EMV-Card-Activation.jpg

The new Heartland Bank EMV Chip Visa Debit Cards have arrived, and you have until the end of January to activate your card for use. The older mag-stripe only debit cards will no longer work after January 31, 2016.

How To Activate Your New Card

When your card arrives, make sure to call the number listed on the sticker on the card to activate it. The last day to activate your new card is January 31, 2016.

In addition, don't forget to destroy your existing card once your new card has been activated. If you have any automatic withdrawals associated with your existing card, be sure to update creditors and merchants with your new card information

Why You Received a New Card

In order to keep our customers' money as safe as possible, an extra layer of security has been added to your new debit card. An advanced security chip, known as an EMV chip. is now embedded on the front of your card. This chip generates a unique, one-time code each time you dip your card at a chip-enabled terminal. Because of this, it is virtually impossible for fraudsters to counterfeit or copy your debit card.

Once you have received your new EMV chip card, you will not have to make any changes to your existing account. Your current personal identification number (PIN) will remain the same.

How To Use Your New CardEMV Chip-Enabled Terminal

These chip cards can be used anywhere your other cards are used, but the chip functionality only works at a business that has an activated chip-enabled terminal. The following steps can help you better understand how to use your new card:

  1. Insert your card into the chip-enabled terminal with the chip first, facing up.
  2. Leave the card in the terminal until the transaction is complete. You may be prompted to sign your name or enter your PIN. Be sure to take your card at the end of the transaction.
  3. If there isn't a chip-enabled terminal, use the card the traditional way and swipe.

The security of your card information and the money in your account are top priorities for us. This card update is just a supplemental security layer to help protect your finances from fraud. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about these new debit cards.
